The Meghdut Digital Platform (MDP) is an online platform following the ‘marketplace’ model, where various onboarded product sellers (“Merchants”) offer their products for sales in the e-commerce format where buyers (“Customers”) can log in, select merchants, browse/select desired products, add to cart, checkout and then complete the purchase process by either making online payment through the Platform’s payment gateway or decide to pay on delivery (COD) and have the purchased items delivered to desired address. In some cases (if Merchant so allows), Customers may also opt for Takeaway.
Coverage: MDP’s area of coverage is currently limited to greater Kolkata. Some Merchants may restrict delivery to predefined distances. Whether a Merchant will deliver depends on the Customer’s selected delivery address and is at the Merchant’s sole discretion.
Shipping/Delivery Modes: Edible, perishable, and breakable products are delivered via delivery partners (Platform or Merchant arranged). Durable products are shipped by Merchants via Speed Post or reliable courier services.
Platform-arranged delivery: Orders are delivered via independent contractors. These delivery partners are not MDP employees or agents. MDP is not liable for acts or omissions of these partners.
Merchant-arranged delivery: Merchants may use their own delivery services or reliable courier services.
Platform Obligations: MDP aims for high standards. Customers can report issues via customer service or the grievance mechanism on the MDP homepage.
Customer Obligation: Customers must treat delivery partners respectfully. Harassment may lead to restricted access to the Platform. Claims resulting from inappropriate conduct are the Customer’s responsibility.
Charges for Platform-arranged delivery vary by distance (Rs. 30–50 + GST). B2B/bulk deliveries are charged case-by-case. Some deliveries may be free depending on merchant or order value. Merchant-arranged delivery charges vary per Merchant.
All delivery charges are itemized in the Invoice, sent via WhatsApp.
Delivery time depends on the Merchant, stock availability, shipping destination, and location. Perishable items have a same-day delivery goal (within 2 hours). Non-perishables follow Speed Post or courier timelines.
NOTE: Accurate delivery addresses and landmarks help ensure timely delivery.
Order tracking: Platform deliveries include WhatsApp updates with delivery partner name, ETA, and OTP. Merchant deliveries follow their own tracking process.
Platform-arranged deliveries: Upon delivery, customers verify products via OTP and check invoice, quantity, and condition.
If COD was selected, UPI payment via QR code is preferred. Cash is accepted only if UPI fails.
Merchant-arranged deliveries: Follow the process defined by the respective courier company or Merchant.
